La Maison Saulaie offers a club chair version of each of its club products, whether sofas or armchairs, with a choice of over ten velvet colours: ochre velvet, royal blue, fir green. La Maison Saulaie is delighted to add these cotton-linen or velvet fabric categories to expand its customers’ interior design and decoration options. With several decades of experience in editing, interior decoration and, more recently, interior design, the Maison is bringing products with timeless elegance back into fashion. It is making French or European craftsmanship accessible again thanks to new customisable collections. The club chair is a symbol of this bygone era, perfectly adapted to contemporary tones.

From the traditional leather club chair to the velvet club chair, a model of modern elegance

The club chair is a model of timeless elegance. Traditionally available in leather, the club chair is a comfortable lounge chair, historically found in colonial properties, then in upmarket European lounges or, more specifically, in English gentlemen's clubs. This English-style chair is resolutely associated with masculine atmospheres, with brandy and cigars in the 19th century or the first half of the 20th century. It is easy to imagine these men in suits.

Less selective, much more democratised, the club chair was transformed in the late 20th century with more contemporary, more compact designs compatible with smaller interiors and more urban lifestyles. Materials are combined: wood and aluminium for an industrial-style club chair like the aviator leather club chair, where the modified design reflects current trends such as Scandinavian, or more retro like the art deco style.

Thanks to its full-grain leather, the club chair retains its former glory, but its curves are simplified, its design modernised. Aged leather has appeared, with the aim of giving each chair a unique character and allowing its fans to rediscover the patina of time so beloved of this vintage chair. Vintage brown leather in particular has become undeniably popular.

The velvet club chair, a traditional and modern club chair

The addition of these new textures to our catalogue gives a decorative aspect, both bright and warm, which is particularly appreciated. The softness and comfort of the fabric or velvet are new possibilities offered for each of our club chairs to create an elegant velvet club chair: Chesterfield club chair, Middletown club chair, Choiseul club chair, etc. Our velvet club chairs from the Middleton range have a vintage feel with their visible legs and buttons sewn onto the back. In contrast, the Fumoir range is more modern, but remains timeless with its classic curves.

This type of chair forms a perfect ensemble with a velvet sofa or tub chair. Placed in your lounge, dining room or office, you can be sure that your interior decoration will take on a whole new dimension. Velvet brings a warm and bright aspect to all your living spaces.

Our velvet leather chairs retain the prestige of traditional club chairs. They are more compact and more modern. To preserve the timelessness of our products, we have developed a range with different velvet colours: blue, charcoal, yellow, grey, burgundy and fir green.

High-quality manufacturing for our chairs

La Maison Saulaie has taken particular care to work with the best cabinetmakers, upholsterers and colourists, using traditional manufacturing methods to obtain a comfortable, high-quality chair. Thus, the frame is made of solid rubberwood or beech, the seat foam has an additional layer of goose feathers, and the seams are saddle-stitched so that each stitch is independent of the others.

Finally, the full-grain leather used is cowhide or buffalo leather that is both thick and supple for everyday comfort and optimum durability. Our vintage leather is obtained using aniline dye, i.e. natural. The leather is not soaked in chemical baths and still has slight traces of the animal's life. Once the leather is coloured, these traces fade slightly and give the leather a unique character, especially when it acquires a patina over time.

The quality of our services does not only concern the manufacturing methods and materials selected. We want you to benefit from free, bespoke delivery, so that when you receive your velvet club chair or any other Saulaie product, your experience is enjoyable and therefore in keeping with our working methods.
