The antique style combines the richness of the old with contemporary creativity. The richness of antique furniture offers a wide choice: bergère armchairs, caned chairs, banded tables, ...

To find your way around, you must first know how to recognise the styles to which these antique furniture pieces belong: Louis XV, Louis XVI, Directoire and Louis Philippe styles are examples of this. The Louis XV style (1730-1760) breaks with the austerity of the Louis XIV style, which sought above all to convey power, whereas the Louis XVI style (1774-1785) rejects the slender Louis XV forms to return to the rigour of geometric forms inspired by antiquity.

The Directoire style (1795-1803) is a smooth transition from the Louis XVI style to the Empire style (without however having its heaviness). Simplifying the lines of Louis XVI furniture, it seeks to reproduce as faithfully as possible the antique Greco-Roman pieces.

To finish our quick overview of antique furniture styles, the Louis Philippe style (1830-1848) extends the Restoration style by keeping its sober lines. Less elegant, it favours comfort over aesthetics. The seats have a slightly more massive appearance but are so comfortable.
